My road to fly fishing
In the summer of 1970, at the age of 5, my father took me fishing
for the first time, to the river Doubs, a chalk stream in the Swiss
Jura mountain range. There I saw fishermen standing in rubber
boots in the middle of the river. When they started to draw mystic
lines into the blue sky I asked “Dad, what is that for?” and my
father explained to me “Fly Fishing”.
Inspired by the advantages of fly fishing, my father
bought a fiber glass fly rod in 1972. Some months later I
received a white Fenwick fly rod as a birthday present.
Since that time we went trough many lessons and
adventures in fly casting and fly fishing and became
obsessed fly fishermen.
Unfortunately my father passed away in the spring of
2005.
Fishing is a family tradition and the knowledge will be
passed down to future generations. It is now my turn to
hand the passion on to my sons David and Robin. I try my
best but in the age of computer games, Lord of the Rings
and Harry Potter, sometimes it feels like mission
impossible.
Some years ago I moved from high modulated graphite rods
to hand crafted split cane rods. Many stories have been told
about bamboo rods.
Mine is that I love to work with natural materials and create
different tapers for different casting and fishing conditions.
Most of all I love the profound soul touching moment of
being on a beautiful river with a bamboo rod in my hand and
to lay out a perfect line as only a bamboo rod could.
